Position Overview

This role is part of the International Accounting Advisory Team (IAAT), the first point of contact for IFRS and US GAAP technical accounting within the International Division. The team provides financial oversight, guidance and support to local operating company finance teams, partners with Strategy and Development and Tax teams, and supports the preparation of opening and closing balance sheets and integration activities.

It also oversees local group reporting, statutory audit processes, and ensures compliance with deadlines.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Oversee the division’s financial accounting outputs in compliance with CRH’s accounting policies under both IFRS and US GAAP; respond to ad-hoc technical accounting queries from operating finance, controlling, reporting, internal audit, tax and treasury teams.
  • Work closely with regional strategy and development teams to ensure appropriate acquisition and divestment structuring and accounting throughout due diligence, deal completion and subsequent integration.
  • Partner with the CRH Group Accounting Advisory team in Dublin to provide guidance and training to European finance teams on new and existing accounting policies; develop the training calendar for the international division.
  • Act as project manager and key coordination point for the external audit process, working with internal control and risk functions and local business finance teams to implement system-based monitoring of regulatory reporting requirements and streamline audit processes.
Key Functional Competencies
  • Extensive knowledge of IFRS; US GAAP desirable.
  • Critical thinking, independent research and analysis to determine correct accounting treatment for complex transactions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; adapt style to suit audience.
  • Understanding of commercial rationale for transactions and ability to apply practical solutions.
  • Ability to develop and manage relationships with multiple stakeholders at varying seniority levels.
  • Independent, motivated with strong project management and prioritisation skills.
  • Solution mindset and comfort with ambiguity and changing priorities.
Experience / Education
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with 10-12 years post‑qualification experience.
  • Strong financial accounting background; detailed IFRS knowledge required; US GAAP desirable.
  • Experience with large‑scale acquisition and divestment transactions.
  • Experience engaging with and managing expectations of stakeholders across territories and seniority levels.
  • Experience constructively challenging and influencing finance professionals.
  • Experience writing accounting technical memos for internal or external audiences.
Team Structure

The International Accounting Advisory Team is part of the International Central Finance team supporting the International Division, which spans more than 25 countries and over 100 operating companies. The team currently consists of 4 FTEs based in Ireland, the UK and Australia, working remotely with access to local offices.
