Job OverviewWe are seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Manager to join our growing Accounting Services team. This is a key leadership role within the department, responsible for managing a portfolio of clients while supporting the day-to‑day running of the team, reviewing technical work, developing junior colleagues and working closely with the Accounting Services Manager and Partners and to deliver an excellent client service.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Accountant looking to take the next step into management, or an existing Assistant Manager seeking to further develop their leadership skills within a supportive and growing firm.
The role requires strong technical expertise, excellent organisational skills, and the confidence to work both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic practice environment.
The Role- Managing a portfolio of clients including limited companies, sole traders and partnership.
- Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts in accordance with UK GAAP and FRS 102/FRS 105.
- Reviewing bookkeeping and management accounts prepared by junior team members.
- Supporting the day‑to‑day supervision, coaching and development of Junior Accountants, Apprentices and other members of the team.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for clients, building strong and trusted relationships.
- Providing business advisory support, identifying opportunities to add value.
- Ensuring assignments are completed within agreed budgets and deadlines.
- Working closely with the Accounting Services Manager and Partners to support the planning and allocation of work, resource management and the continued development of the department.
- Contributing to process improvements and maintaining high technical standards across the team.
- Assisting in special projects and initiatives as needed.
- ACA / ACCA qualified. A minimum of 5-8 years’ experience.
- Previous experience within an accountancy practice at Senior Accountant level or equivalent.
- Experience managing a portfolio of clients.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK accounting standards.
- Experience reviewing technical work and supervising junior staff.
- Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Excellent customer service and the ability to build rapport and manage client relationships.
- Proficient in accounting software and MS Office, with advanced Excel skills.
- Experience in the medical sector would be advantageous.
