Position: Internal Audit Trainee - September 2026 Start

Description

Bishop Fleming is a dynamic audit, accounting, tax and advisory business. Our strength lies in our people and the relationships they build with clients and each other. That is why, among numerous other awards, we are Great Place to Work-Certified™ and ranked as a Best Workplace™ for Women.

What is Internal Audit?

Internal audit is about understanding how organisations work from the inside. Rather than focusing only on finance, you’ll get involved in reviewing and understanding:

  • How organisations manage risk and make decisions
  • Operational processes across different departments
  • Governance, controls and compliance frameworks
  • Areas such as IT systems, procurement, Human Resources and service delivery

You’ll work with a wide range of organisations – including companies, housing associations, charities, education providers and other diverse organisations – giving you a broader and more varied experience than many traditional entry‑level roles.

What you’ll be doing

As an Internal Audit Associate, you’ll be part of a team delivering internal audits for clients. From day one, you’ll start building practical skills and experience, gradually taking on more responsibility as your confidence and experience grow.

  • Supporting internal audit reviews across a variety of organisations
  • Learning how to assess risks and evaluate controls
  • Speaking with client teams to understand how processes work
  • Testing key controls and documenting findings
  • Contributing to reports that help organisations improve
What You’ll Gain with Us

We provide an apprenticeship framework that lets you start working and learning straight away without immediately entering an exam‑heavy programme. You’ll receive:

  • On‑the‑job training and support from experienced internal audit professionals
  • Exposure to clients and real work from the beginning
  • Structured development as you build your skills and confidence

In time, there may be the opportunity to pursue professional qualifications such as the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), but this is something you can consider after gaining practical experience.

Entry Requirements
  • 3 A Levels (or equivalent) with minimum grades of CCC/96 UCAS points
  • 9 GCSEs 9-4 (A*‑C) with at least Grade 4 (C) in Maths and English
Desired Attributes
  • Curious and interested in how organisations work
  • Strong communicator with good attention to detail
  • Keen to learn and develop in a practical environment
  • Confident working with people and asking questions
  • Motivated and willing to take on responsibility
