Salary: £15.38 - £17.95 per hour / £12,000 - £14,000 actual annual salary (Based on £30,000 - £35,000 FTE)
About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced, autonomous Part-Time Bookkeeper / Accounts Manager to take full ownership of our finance function as a dedicated, standalone one-person department.
This is a key role managing our end-to-end day-to-day accounts-from transactional ledgers and credit control to monthly management accounts, VAT, PAYE oversight, and year-end audit support. We offer excellent flexibility around working hours and a hybrid working model once you are settled in the role.
Key ResponsibilitiesWeekly Duties:
- Full management of Purchase, Sales, and Nominal Ledgers.
- Entering supplier invoices and raising customer sales invoices.
- Weekly bank reconciliations (recording all payments and receipts).
- Preparing and raising weekly supplier payment runs.
- Credit control: monitoring aged debtors and actively chasing outstanding balances.
Monthly & Quarterly Duties:
- Reconciling our Invoice Factoring account.
- Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns (MTD compliant).
- Liaising with our external payroll bureau, posting monthly payroll journals, and ensuring timely HMRC payments for PAYE/NI.
- Posting nominal journals (accruals, prepayments, and monthly adjustments).
- Producing accurate monthly Management Reports for management review.
Yearly Duties:
- Preparing year-end files and liaising directly with our external accountants.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for annual financial audits or compliance checks.
Systems Migration:
Assisting with our planned transition from Pegasus Opera to Xero at year-end.
- Experience:
Proven track record in a standalone or senior bookkeeping/accounts role with end-to-end financial responsibility. - Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, management reporting, UK VAT rules, Making Tax Digital (MTD), and payroll/PAYE journals. - Software:
Experience with Pegasus Opera is highly desirable. Experience with Xero (or experience assisting with software migrations) is a major advantage. - Attributes:
Highly self-motivated, organized, and confident taking complete ownership of a finance function.
