Semi-Senior Accountant | Northampton | Daventry | Cottons Group

Cotton Group Practice is a well established accountancy practice known for delivering high-quality accounting and tax services to a varied client base. They've partnered with Balanced Hiring to manage all recruitment as they grow their teams across Midlands.

These are great opportunities if you're ready to move beyond task-based work and start building their own client relationships, technical expertise, and advisory skills.

What you'll be doing:
  • Preparing statutory accounts for a varied client portfolio, ready for senior review
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Preparing personal tax returns
  • Bookkeeping across a range of clients
  • Preparing management accounts
  • Supporting senior staff on ad-hoc assignments and client work
  • Mentoring and supporting trainee staff
  • Liaising directly with clients to gather information and resolve queries
Where this role can take you:

This isn't a standing-still role. Over time you'll take on your own client relationships, greater responsibility for planning and delivering assignments, and a more advisory-focused role — backed by real investment in your technical development.

What we're looking for:
  • AAT qualified, or studying towards ACA/ACCA (or equivalent)
  • Solid grounding in accounts preparation and bookkeeping
  • Experience with VAT and personal tax compliance
  • Comfortable with accounting software such as Xero, Quick Books, or Sage
  • Strong attention to detail, organisation, and communication skills
  • A team player who takes ownership of their work
Nice to have:
  • Experience preparing management accounts
  • Previous experience mentoring or supporting trainees
  • Strong workload and deadline management
What's on offer:
  • Structured progression path with genuine client-facing responsibility
  • Collaborative, learning-focused team culture
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays
