Starting salary: £27,166 – £28,768, with progression potential to £32,145.

Background

As an administrator within the payroll team you will support a broad range of payroll duties – some complex – and may lead on specific tasks.

Role Summary

Provide proactive administrative support in the relevant department, working independently or as part of a team. You may be asked to work across different areas of the department or the wider University.

Main Duties
  • Act as a point of contact within Payroll, providing accurate, timely advice to internal and external customers and stakeholders.
  • Communicate relevant information to staff and external contacts.
  • Provide administrative support for other payroll team members and external stakeholders.
  • Process data, monitor accuracy, chase missing information and raise issues as appropriate.
  • Use complex University systems to research, manipulate, analyse and interpret data and produce routine reports.
  • Maintain working relationships with key stakeholders, resolving disputes and complaints promptly.
  • Offer advice and support to others on the activity area.
  • Review processes and proactively suggest improvements and share best practice.
  • Support equality and diversity – avoid discriminatory impact or bias.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • Payroll knowledge or experience is advantageous; experience of Oracle Cloud software beneficial.
  • GCSEs to a minimum of grade C/4 in English and Mathematics grade C (or equivalent level 2 qualification).
  • Good IT skills and working knowledge of standard Microsoft Office.
  • Take responsibility for tasks, working independently with scope for initiative and judgment.
  • Work independently or in a team, proactively improving processes and proposing new ways of working.
  • Excellent communication skills – clear and effective.
  • Well organised, prioritising work independently and as part of a team.
  • Deliver excellent customer service.
  • Experience of using complex work systems – student databases, finance/HR systems – and willingness to learn new packages.
  • Handle change in a fast‑moving, dynamic environment.
  • Understand and apply equality and diversity principles.
  • Identify and respond to equality and diversity issues in line with relevant policies.
