Birmingham City Council is looking for a highly organised and motivated Business Support Officer to join our SENAR (Special Educational Needs Assessment and Review) Central Business Support Team on a part-time basis (21 hours per week).

This is an excellent opportunity to play a vital role in supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities across Birmingham. Working within a busy and supportive team, you will provide high-quality administrative support to help ensure Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes are delivered accurately and within statutory timescales.

As a Business Support Officer within the SENAR Central Business Support Team, you will provide essential administrative support to ensure the smooth delivery of Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes for children and young people across Birmingham. The role involves managing a busy shared mailbox, maintaining accurate records, processing documentation, and responding to enquiries from families, schools, colleagues and external professionals.

Working in a fast-paced environment, you will help the team meet statutory deadlines, deliver excellent customer service, and ensure administrative processes are completed efficiently and accurately.

What you’ll need to succeed

We are looking for a highly organised and detail-oriented individual with excellent administrative and customer service skills. You will be confident managing a busy and varied workload, able to prioritise competing demands, and comfortable communicating with a wide range of stakeholders including families, schools, colleagues and external professionals. A positive, flexible approach, strong IT skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team are essential.

Most importantly, you will be committed to providing a high-quality support service that helps improve outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
