Position: Workshop Light Vehicle Technician / MOT Tester
Location
- Rotherham Council, Hellaby Depot, Sandbeck Way, Hellaby, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, S66 8QL
Pay Rate - £16.62 per hour PAYE | £21.58 per hour Umbrella Working Hours
- Monday to Friday, 7:30am - 15:30pm Contract
- Temporary, Full-time for 2 - 3 months Rotherham Council is seeking an experienced Workshop LV Technician/MOT Tester to join its in-house maintenance operation based at Hellaby Depot . This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a skilled and supportive workshop team responsible for maintaining a diverse fleet of over 200 vehicles and grounds maintenance machines. Day to Day of the role
- As an approved MOT testing centre, the workshop plays a crucial role in keeping essential council services running safely and efficiently across the borough. Reporting into the Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for carrying out MOT and Taxi Compliance testing while delivering high-quality vehicle maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs. Key duties include:
Conducting up to 8 MOT/Taxi Compliance tests per day to DVSA standards Carrying out vehicle inspections, maintenance, repairs, and fault diagnosis Preparing and presenting vehicles for annual MOT inspections Undertaking periodic vehicle safety inspections in line with DVSA inspection standards Working on hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical vehicle systems Using modern vehicle diagnostic equipment and technology Updating and maintaining records using the Taxi Compliance database Carrying out pre-delivery inspections on new fleet vehicles Supporting fleet decommissioning activities Attending vehicle breakdowns and accident-damaged vehicles when required Participating in occasional out-of-hours response work Qualifications and Requirements Current MOT Testing Licence (must be valid and up to date) Light Vehicle Inspection Qualification or proven time-served experience Full UK Driving Licence City & Guilds or IMI Level 3 qualification in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, Motor Vehicle Engineering, or equivalent experience Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills Good understanding of health and safety practices Computer literacy and ability to input data accurately Customer service experience Valid Basic DBS Previous experience conducting Taxi Compliance Testing Qualifications & Experience A Level 5 or Level 6 qualification in a relevant field with substantial industry experience City & Guilds, IMI Level 3 qualification in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, Motor Vehicle Engineering, or equivalent time served experience.
