As an Associate Business Analyst (BA), you will play an important role in supporting Birmingham City Council's strategic priorities by helping to identify, analyse, and deliver effective business solutions. You will work with colleagues across the organisation to understand business challenges and opportunities, gather requirements, and contribute to initiatives that improve services, workforce capability, and organisational performance.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and evolving Business Operations function that is committed to improving organisational performance, supporting transformation programmes, and enabling services to operate more effectively.
You will work alongside colleagues from across Birmingham City Council to identify opportunities for improvement, streamline business processes, and support strategic initiatives that deliver positive outcomes for both employees and residents.
As an Associate Business Analyst, You WillLearn while developing practical experience through a combination of hands‑on work, mentoring, and professional development. Supported by the Business Operations team, you will:
- Engage with stakeholders across the Council to understand operational challenges, opportunities, and priorities
- Support workforce planning, learning and development, business improvement, and organisational effectiveness initiatives
- Analyse business processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and service delivery
- Gather, document, and communicate business requirements and recommendations
- Use data, research, and evidence to support decision‑making and continuous improvement
- Contribute to projects and programmes that drive organisational change and business transformation
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful outcomes
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with an ability to think critically and identify practical solutions
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Good report‑writing skills and experience of preparing presentations using a range of software applications
- A basic understanding of financial processes, budgeting, or financial management tools
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to build relationships and engage with a range of stakeholders
- An interest in business operations, workforce development, organisational performance, and public service improvement
