This role sits within the Public Bodies Engagement and Standards team. We are a delivery-focused team, for embedding best practice corporate governance and sponsorship across the DfT Family of c.30 public bodies. We build capability, provide strategic insight and drive continuous improvement to help Boards, sponsors and public bodies deliver better outcomes for the public.

Top Responsibilities

* Work flexibly across the Public Bodies Centre of Excellence Directorate to support the delivery of departmental priorities and provide resilience across teams as business needs evolve. While the successful candidate will initially be assigned to Public Bodies Engagement and Standards Team, all roles form part of a shared Directorate resource. Opportunities may arise to contribute to work across the wider Directorate, including public body reviews, governance, sponsorship capability, public inquiries, and public appointments.

* Develop and maintain knowledge of the Department's public body landscape and sponsorship best practice. Support the development and delivery of sponsorship capability through expert advice, guidance and engagement

* Lead and deliver a varied portfolio of work, providing high-quality support on priority activities, often working across team boundaries and engaging with colleagues from different disciplines.

* Prepare clear, accurate and insightful briefings, submissions and advice for senior leaders, including Directors General, Permanent Secretaries and Ministers, as well as materials for external meetings, events and stakeholder engagement.

About You

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Excellent organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple work streams and deliver high-quality outputs at pace.

* Sound judgement and problem-solving skills, with the ability to spot risks and opportunities, escalate issues appropriately, and provide clear options and recommendations.

* Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience of building constructive relationships and collaborating effectively across organisational boundaries.

* Experience improving ways of working, including strengthening capability, governance, assurance or delivery disciplines to support better outcomes.
