The role:

The Gambling Commission established the Industry Forum in 2024 to sit alongside existing stakeholder engagement and provide insight and evidence from the industry we regulate. We are appointing a Chair to the Industry Forum to lead forum meetings and engage with Commission staff and Commissioners, drawing insight from forum members in a way that helps to develop the Commission’s regulatory work.

The role will be for a 3-year term, paid at a daily rate of £500.

Your responsibilities:

In this role, we’re looking for someone with a background in and understanding of the gambling industry, and who can meet the requirements of our Managing Conflicts of Interest policy.

You will have experience managing groups of people to facilitate high-quality engagement from a range of different viewpoints.

You will be able to build effective working relationships and communicate clearly and with impact to a range of audiences, often including senior stakeholders.

With the support of the Commission, you will be the public-facing representative of the forum when interacting with trade press, industry stakeholders and other public forums.

You will support the Forum and Commission to identify, understand and resolve issues that impact the Commission, industry and consumers. You will have a keen interest in identifying practical solutions that move issues forward.

You may be asked to take part in a small amount of UK-based travel as part of your role to attend meetings or events. These will be funded through appropriate travel and subsistence.

- It’s about relationships. You will work with members of the Forum and wider stakeholders to understand and present industry perspectives. You will build strong relationships with Commission colleagues and Commissioners to present the insight of the Forum in appropriate and constructive ways.
- It’s about governance. You will contribute to and uphold the Forum’s terms of reference and support the Commission’s high standards of governance, including managing conflicts of interest.
- It’s about problem-solving and analysis. You will help group members analyse and weigh their evidence and insight and ensure it is communicated accurately and with impact, giving due consideration to the licensing objectives.

What we’re looking for:

Essential criteria:

- Excellent understanding of the GB gambling industry and the regulatory landscape.
- Previous experience of chairing groups or boards.
- Proven ability to manage conflicting views on matters that generate robust debate
- Proven ability to identify practical solutions to shared problems.
- Demonstrated ability to handle potentially negative or sensitive public scrutiny, whilst remaining professional.
- Be able to show resilience and sound judgement in contentious environments, including the handling of media and public relations.

Desirable criteria:

- Knowledge of the challenges faced by industry and the Commission from unlicensed gambling operators
- An understanding of the threats and opportunities from the growth of AI
