This Birmingham role gives a Chartered Building Surveyor access to complex commercial property work without losing the autonomy and visibility of an independent consultancy.

The successful Chartered Building Surveyor will join a respected construction consultancy advising clients across industrial, logistics, retail and commercial.

The Chartered Building Surveyor Role

The Chartered Building Surveyor will focus on technical due diligence, dilapidations and contract administration, managing instructions from initial brief through to completion. You will remain close to clients and delivery, working with colleagues across surveying, project management, cost consultancy and design where the instruction requires it.

The position provides a balanced mix of project and professional work, allowing the Chartered Building Surveyor to deepen technical expertise while taking increasing ownership of clients, fees and project outcomes.

The team is selective about the work it takes on, placing emphasis on clear advice, sensible workloads and long-term client relationships.

Surveyors are encouraged to bring ideas forward and improve how projects are delivered, rather than simply follow a fixed corporate process.

Duties of the Chartered Building Surveyor to include:

  • Lead projects from initial advice through to completion
  • Act as Contract Administrator and Project Manager
  • Prepare specifications, tenders and technical reports
  • Undertake surveys, defect analysis and due diligence
  • Manage client communication and project reporting
  • Coordinate internal and external consultant teams
  • Deliver dilapidations and planned maintenance advice
  • Support fee proposals and repeat business
  • Mentor junior staff where appropriate
The Person ?

The successful Chartered Building Surveyor will be technically confident, commercially aware and capable of managing clients and competing priorities with limited supervision.

The Chartered Building Surveyor will ideally have:
  • MRICS qualification
  • A relevant Building Surveying degree
  • Construction consultancy experience
  • Strong project and professional services knowledge
  • Confident written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to manage clients and consultant teams
  • Sound JCT contract knowledge
  • An interest in developing client relationships
  • A practical and collaborative approach
