Senior Quantity Surveyor - Building

Location:

Birmingham

We're looking for an accomplished Senior Quantity Surveyor to strengthen our Building division and drive commercial success across a diverse portfolio of West Midlands projects. This is a high‑impact role where you'll shape financial performance from procurement through to final account, influencing strategy, managing risk, and ensuring every project delivers maximum value.

You'll take full commercial ownership of either a flagship scheme or a collection of smaller projects, working closely with operational teams, clients, and the wider supply chain. Your expertise will be central to safeguarding profitability, enhancing performance, and supporting informed decision‑making at every stage.

What You'll Lead

Commercial management - cost control, forecasting, reporting, and final accounts

Subcontract procurement - negotiation, contract administration, and value‑driven selection

Applications, variations & claims - ensuring robust cash flow and commercial protection

Risk & opportunity management - driving value engineering and commercial optimisation

Team leadership - mentoring junior surveyors and contributing to a high‑performing commercial team

About You

You're a commercially sharp, detail‑driven professional with solid main‑contractor experience and a track record of delivering successful commercial outcomes.

You bring:

Proven experience managing commercial aspects of construction projects, including final accounts

Strong knowledge of measurement, valuation, and standard forms of contract

Expertise in subcontract procurement, negotiation, and contract administration

The ability to produce accurate cost reports, forecasts, and financial analysis

A strong understanding of construction processes, drawings, and specifications

Experience in risk management, value engineering, and dispute avoidance/resolution

Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills

Experience mentoring junior team members

Sector experience in health, education, commercial, or mixed‑use is highly desirable. Professional membership such as RICS is a bonus
