PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £27,600 - £31,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.
Purpose of the RoleNewsbeat is an industry‑leading multi‑platform team delivering bold, original journalism for 15–24‑year‑olds across BBC Radio 1, 1
Xtra, Asian Network, BBC News Online and social platforms. We’re looking for a journalist who can do it all – write and read for radio, craft compelling online stories, and film and edit standout social content.
In this fast‑paced, creative newsroom you’ll play a key role in the BBC’s mission to reach young and underserved audiences with journalism that’s trusted, relevant and genuinely speaks to them. You’ll need to understand what matters to young people and find fresh, inventive ways to tell those stories – pushing our editorial ambition and driving innovation along the way.
Key Responsibilities and Impact- Write, report on and read content – including stories and video – for the BBC News website and social platforms.
- Demonstrate sound editorial judgment and a strong understanding of young and diverse audiences to inform content strategy and decision‑making.
- Leverage excellent editorial judgment and audience insight to create content that resonates with young and diverse communities.
- Use analytics and data to drive our journalism.
- Generate boundary‑pushing ideas for stories and guests.
- Passionately engage 15‑24 year olds with national and global news.
- A great broadcast voice.
- Interest in national and global news and current affairs, including politics, sport and entertainment.
- Excellent writing, production and organisational skills.
- A track record of delivering content with young and diverse audiences in mind.
- Proficiency at generating original ideas.
- Excellent editorial judgment: making the right decisions based on a clear understanding of the BBC’s distinctive news agenda.
- Comprehensive understanding of modern digital trends, formats, platforms and analytics.
We work on a 7‑day rota with a range of shifts, including early, late and weekend duties.
