Band 6 Dental Nurse Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated Band 6 Dental Nurse Manager for a 16‑month fixed‑term/secondment position based at Birmingham Dental Hospital with a split portfolio.

This is an internal vacancy; only employees of Birmingham Community Health NHS Foundation Trust (BCHC), Trust Bank and agency staff engaged with BCHC are eligible to apply.

• Unscheduled Dental Care, Oral Medicine, Oral Surgery, Special Care – x2 days (Monday & second day TBC)
• Paediatrics, Orthodontics, Dental Outreach Centre – x2 days (Thursday/Friday)

• Provide high‑quality care to a wide spectrum of patients across the Dental Service, including BDH, CDS, mobile clinics and external sites.
• Act as conduit for service‑wide communication for certain specialities or localities; attend meetings on behalf of the Dental Matron.
• Order equipment and stock, maintain efficient levels within localities or specialities, verify orders and maintain the accounting system.
• Support financial management of the service with Clinical Leads, Divisional Director of Nursing and Therapies, Heads of Service and Dental Matron.
• Participate in management and improvement of the integrated Dental Service, develop policies and protocols as appropriate.
• Manage Dental Nurses and support staff at all grades – staff appraisal and development, identify training needs, coordinate post‑qualification training.

• Develop and empower all team members to perform to high standards and innovate.
• Ensure supportive staff management arrangements, carry out appraisals / personal development reviews (PDRs); all staff receive annual PDRs with objectives and plans.
• Develop staff knowledge and skills to promote equality and diversity, address inequalities in employment and service delivery; include equality objectives in PDRs.
• Create a working culture that ensures health and wellbeing and promotes a “Great Place to Work” and learning for staff.

• Dental Nurse qualification registered with the GDC.
• Registered with the GDC.
• Management and/or supervisory qualification.
• Evidence of continued professional development.
• Post‑qualifications e.g. Radiography, Sedation, Special Care, Oral Health.

• Extensive post‑qualification experience.
• Significant management experience.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
• Evidence of working on own initiative and development of projects.

• Good organisational and time‑management skills.
• Ability to lead and work as part of a team.
• Ability to plan and coordinate complex activities.

• Ability to work flexibly across the Dental Services.
