We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and forward‑thinking Specialist Dental Nurse to support patient pathways and clinical excellence in a multidisciplinary team delivering a range of dental treatments under local anaesthetic, conscious sedation and general anaesthesia.
Main duties of the job- Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service and manage patients with complex dental, social and medical needs.
- Stock control/rotation and ordering of dental consumables from appropriate suppliers.
- Prepare and maintain specialised dental equipment and dispose of clinical waste, including bodily fluids.
- Support recording of patient pre‑operative assessments (e.g. height, weight, blood pressure).
- Carry out any other duties relevant to this role as specified by the Dental Nurse Manager.
- Identify staff and students who require additional training within the specialty and escalatethem as appropriate.
- Support the School of Dental Nursing, University of Birmingham, School of Hygiene and Therapy and relevant Heads of Service to provide team training for all disciplines.
- Adhere to procedures that support and maintain national targets of compliance.
- Implement agreed local Divisional and Trust Policies.
- Implement outcomes in respect of Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement relating to the specialty.
- Dental Nurse qualification enabling registration with the General Dental Council (NVQ Level 3, Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing or Dental Nursing National Certificate).
- Registered with the General Dental Council and hold a post‑registration qualification certificate or equivalent.
- Provide evidence of continual professional development relevant to the specialty (e.g. Dental Sedation Nursing – IV/IHS, Special Care Dental Nursing – Orthodontic, Dental Radiography, Oral Health Education, Dental Implant Nursing).
- Recognised Teaching Qualification at Level 3 or equivalent.
- Significant experience in a wide range of dentistry.
- Significant evidence of continued professional development relevant to the specialty (IV/IHS).
- Demonstrate experience of supporting undergraduates and post‑registration staff to deliver high quality patient care and achieve their required educational standards.
- Evidence of service quality improvement bringing about improved patient outcomes.
- Evidence of informal and formal assessment experience in an educational or healthcare environment.
In accordance with UK Home Office requirements, Band 2 clinical and non‑clinical roles and Band 3 Non‑Clinical roles are not eligible for sponsorship. The Trust accepts applications from candidates who can evidence their right to work in the UK or via alternative visa routes.
DBS CostsAll new employees starting work with the Trust will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary in three payments over a three‑month period once you start employment. Standard check £26.40; enhanced check £54.40 – the level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for.
