The post holder will deliver a general haematology and non-malignant service in one of the largest trusts in the UK, working with a team of Consultant Haematologists.

The appointee will deliver haemostasis, thrombosis and non-malignant haematology subspecialist clinical care, including immunohaematology and obstetric haematology, across the West Midlands region.

UHB’s haematology service provides tertiary services including a regional Comprehensive Haemophilia Centre (including gene therapy), TTP, siHMDS, Level 3 & 4 stem cell transplantation, CAR-T cell therapy, teenage and young adult cancer care, apheresis/plasma exchange, and a active academic portfolio. Inpatient care is at QEHB with 60+ beds and a dedicated Young Persons Unit for TYA cancer care.

Main duties of the job

The site specialist interests will be agreed on acceptance of the post, but will require expertise in haemostasis, thrombosis and other areas of non-malignant haematology as outlined above.

Clinical

The appointee should have experience and interest in managing thrombosis and bleeding disorders (ITP, TTP). The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop disease-specific interests, working with the current team.

Inpatients

Outpatients

The appointee will participate in 3–4 clinics per week, predominantly dealing with haemostasis and thrombosis, with some general haematology. Outpatient activity will include opportunities to support clinical trial recruitment and PI roles. There is active research in non-cancer haematology including commercial and investigational medicinal product studies.

There are integrated weekly HCT multidisciplinary meetings, plus monthly quality meetings, educational sessions, journal clubs and mortality and morbidity meetings. For ward attending commitments, the appointee will provide reciprocal cover for periods of leave.
