Consultant Gastroenterologist

The closing date is 16 March 2026

The post holders will be responsible, together with other members of the department, for the provision of a high-quality secondary and/or tertiary gastroenterology service to complement the existing subspecialisation within the department. The final job plan would be agreed on appointment; however, the successful candidate would be expected to undertake a mix of general gastroenterology, endoscopy, GI Bleed on call and ward cover, as well as providing specialist advice to both primary and secondary care health professionals.

Development of a sub‑speciality interest is encouraged; a particular interest in IBD and Nutrition would be welcomed.

Contribution to both undergraduate and post graduate education is expected, and research interests are actively encouraged and supported.

Depending on the needs of the department, the job plan could have elements of flexible working or annualised sessions.

Main duties of the job

We are excited to invite applications for enthusiastic, dedicated colleagues to join our existing team of consultant gastroenterologists based at Heartlands Hospital. We would particularly welcome colleagues with an interest in nutrition and IBD. These are replacement posts, although additional service expansion is anticipated in the near future.

Clinical responsibility includes outpatient and endoscopy lists, as well as supporting inpatient care, which is shared on a 7‑day consultant of the week model, and participating in the GI bleed rota. Successful candidates will be encouraged and supported to develop their own skills and interests and will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education and/or research.
