Job Summary
We are looking for high-performing individuals to join our existing team of Acute Medicine Consultants at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. There are currently 17 Acute Medicine Consultants and Specialists supported by other specialties to manage patients within our service.
Candidate requirements: MBBS or equivalent, full MRCP qualification, and a CCT or CESR in Acute Medicine (or General Medicine with sufficient consultant-level Acute Medicine experience). The department includes an AMU, Short Stay ward, and SDEC, with opportunities for teaching and subspecialty development.
Standard job plan 10PA; less‑than‑full‑time working is welcome. The department embraces flexible working and encourages candidates to contact the leadership team for further enquiries.
Main DutiesKey responsibilities:
10 PAs including 1.5 core SPA, with opportunities to develop subspecialty interests. Clinical functions involve ward rounds (94 inpatient beds), assessment of new and follow‑up patients at SDEC, and participation in acute medicine rota (0800‑1600 and 1600‑2100, weekend rounds 1‑in‑6 WTE). Administrational duties and timely response to results and liaison with other teams are also required.
Clinical Governance: attend monthly morbidity and mortality meetings; prepare and present cases; use reporting systems to respond to risks, incidents and patient complaints; contribute to departmental and hospital‑wide audits and lead quality improvement projects.
Management: accountable for clinical matters to the Clinical Service Lead. The post holder will deputise and represent the Department within the Trust and externally, adopting leadership roles in service development, education, quality improvement, operational work, research or governance.
Key Skills- Oversight of team activity during clinical sessions and support for registered and non‑registered practitioners
- Provision of appropriate supervision to junior doctors, ACPs and clinical practitioners
- Administrative duties related to patient care
- Contribution to medical education and multidisciplinary team activity
- Participation in departmental and directorate meetings
- Support for the Trust during emergencies and appropriate on‑call commitments
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development including CME
- MRCP or equivalent
- CCT or CESR in Acute Medicine (or General Medicine with sufficient consultant‑level Acute Medicine experience)
