Position: Consultant Ophthalmologist /w SI in Orbital and Oculoplastic

Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic ophthalmologist with subspecialty fellowship experience in orbital and oculoplastic surgery. This is for a substantive Consultant post at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre, expanding our consultant team to meet the growing ophthalmic demands of our ever‑changing demographics.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be supporting the specialised orbital/oculoplastics services in tertiary settings, including services for the regional Ophthalmic A&E. Setting up the Orbital tumour Services and Grand Rounds in collaboration with Allied Disciplines will be a priority. Fellowship in Orbital Surgery and experience in independent surgery is essential. The post holder would also need to participate in the Ophthalmic On Call rota.

Person Specification Essential
  • Entry on the Specialist Register in Ophthalmology (or CCT expected within 6 months from the date of interview)
  • FRCOphth or equivalent
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in Ophthalmology
  • Fulfils all other essential criteria as per Personal Specification
  • GMC registration with License to Practice
Desirable Criteria
  • Higher Degree
  • Special interest that complements the existing consultants
  • Experience in setting up a new service and Subspeciality MDT services
  • Formal training in teaching
  • Knowledge and experience of the application of information technology to Ophthalmology
  • Publications in relevant peer‑reviewed journals in the last five years.
  • Evidence of having undertaken original research
