The SEN Home Tutor plays a vital role in re‑engaging students with learning, supporting their emotional wellbeing, and helping them achieve academic and personal success in a 1:1 home‑based environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Learning
  • Plan and deliver engaging, personalised lessons tailored to individual SEN needs, often across multiple subjects.
  • Use creative and flexible approaches to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Assess, monitor, and report on pupil progress regularly.
Support
  • Build trusting, positive relationships with pupils, many of whom may have autism, ADHD, SEMH needs, or barriers to school‑based learning.
  • Support pupils emotional, social, and behavioural development.
  • Work closely with parents/carers to foster a supportive home school partnership.
Behaviour Management
  • Implement consistent behaviour strategies rooted in empathy and restorative practice.
  • Promote a safe, calm, and nurturing learning environment.
Collaboration
  • Liaise with parents, carers, schools, and external professionals.
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews, personalised plans, and reintegration or transitional support.
Safeguarding
  • Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
  • Remain alert to signs of vulnerability and act promptly to protect pupils.
Person Specification:

Essential
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant SEN tutoring experience
  • Experience working with children with SEN or SEMH needs
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Patience, resilience, and a genuine passion for inclusive education
Desirable
  • Experience in alternative provision, special education, or home tuition
  • Training in trauma‑informed practice or therapeutic approaches
  • Ability to teach across a range of subjects
