An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Prevention team as a Prevention Practitioner. Working under the direction of the Prevention Education Delivery Officer and day‑to‑day supervision of the Lead Practitioner, this role focuses on delivering high‑quality targeted education programmes that support the Prevention Strategy and Community Risk Management Plan.

The postholder will work closely with Prevention Advocate Volunteers to deliver engaging and inclusive safety education sessions across WMFS sites and a range of external educational settings. This part‑time term‑time‑only role involves helping to deliver prevention education to those most at risk and vulnerable to fires and other emergencies across the West Midlands.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver and facilitate prevention education programmes supporting the Lead Practitioner with setup, delivery and closure of sessions.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, volunteer training and the promotion of prevention education and the Safeside Centre.
  • Maintain professional standards by managing workload effectively, following safeguarding practices and keeping skills and knowledge up to date.
Essential skills or experience
  • Experience delivering workshops or educational sessions to children, young people, adults or community groups, including working with diverse audiences.
  • Strong teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills with a flexible and supportive approach.
  • Good administrative and digital skills and a willingness to learn and develop further.
  • A full UK driving licence.
Desirable skills or experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an understanding and empathetic approach to others.
  • The ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
