BackgroundThe University of Birmingham is offering the role of Anatomy Demonstrator(s) to suitably qualified individuals wishing to develop their skills in teaching anatomy as a basis for further career development. Their main responsibility will be to teach anatomy by means of small group teaching sessions and demonstration of prosected cadaveric material. Anatomy demonstrators are part of the anatomy teaching delivery team for undergraduate and postgraduate Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, Nursing, Physician Associate and Biomedical Sciences students in modularised programmes of the College of Medicine and Health.
RoleSummary
The Human Anatomy Unit in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, School of Infection, Inflammation and Immunology, College of Medicine and Health is responsible for teaching topographical anatomy, histology, embryology and neuroanatomy to students in most programmes of the College and beyond. We also provide teaching on prosected material for undergraduate and postgraduate students of Physiotherapy and those taking the MSc in Advanced Clinical.
In addition, we are responsible for the intercalated BSc in Clinical Anatomy for MBChB students.
The post holder will provide innovative engaging sessions for a wide variety of students in several different learning environments (e.g. prosection sessions, small group teaching, interactive lectures, flipped classroom sessions, dissection, Anatomage, ultrasound). They will also be involved in all other aspects of learning and teaching which may include for example setting and marking of assessments and examinations; creating, updating and refreshing learning materials including technology‑enhanced resources;
and creating anatomicalsections. Broader involvement in areas such as educational research, committees, outreach and recruitment may also be expected commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.
