Location: Aston University Campus, Aston Students’ Union, B4 7BX
Salary: Circa £27,319 per annum DOE
Full-time, 36.5 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Aston Students’ Union (SU) is a vibrant membership organisation representing students. We offer a wide range of services including advice and support, a student representation framework, over 100 clubs and societies, accommodation services, and headline annual events.
The RoleWe are seeking an experienced, dynamic, and committed Student Adviser—Advice & Support—to join our Advice Team, providing professional, impartial, confidential, and high-quality guidance to 18,000 students. The role focuses on academic, housing, and money‑related issues, including academic appeals, complaints, and disciplinary matters.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high‑quality advice on academic matters, including appeals, academic offences, complaints, disciplinary issues, and exceptional circumstances.
- Offer guidance on housing and accommodation issues, tenancy agreements, deposits, disputes, and rent arrears.
- Assist students with budgeting and income management.
- Accompany students to university meetings and hearings where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate case records confidentially using a case management system.
- Support projects to enhance student wellbeing and promote the advice service across campus.
- Create engaging digital content for social media, newsletters, and the SU website.
- Keep up to date with university policies, higher education trends, and best practice in advice services.
- Promote equality, diversity, inclusion, and sustainability in all activities.
Essential:
- GCSE (or equivalent) in Math’s and English.
- Significant experience as an adviser or caseworker, preferably in higher education or with Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) or similar advice services.
- Knowledge of confidential advice service principles and data protection/GDPR.
- Strong IT skills
, including Microsoft Office and social media platforms. - Ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks, and work independently or as part of a team.

- 30 days holiday per year (excluding bank holidays).
