Lead Learning and Teaching Educator BUSINESS FUNCTION / SUB-FUNCTION:
Centre for Academic Excellence

LOCATION:

London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds Salary: £45,000-£55,000 ROLE PURPOSE

To design, deliver, and continuously improve high-quality training and development programmes for academic staff, supporting the Centre for Academic Excellence’s mission to enhance teaching, learning, and assessment. Trainers will ensure that staff are equipped with the pedagogic, digital, and inclusive skills needed to meet the evolving needs of students and the institution. The role will focus on delivering evidence‑based, responsive, and impactful training aligned with institutional priorities and sector standards.

ROLE

and RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deliver engaging and effective training sessions for academic staff, including induction, onboarding, digital learning, and bespoke development packages.
  • Contribute to the design and continuous improvement of training materials and resources, ensuring alignment with institutional strategies and best practice.
  • Support the integration of digital technologies, inclusive practices, and generative AI into training content and delivery.
  • Respond to staff development needs identified through feedback, observation data, and institutional KPIs.
  • Provide one‑to‑one and group support to academic staff, helping them to develop their teaching, assessment, and digital skills.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Trainer and other Trainers to ensure consistency, quality, and innovation in training delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records of training participation, feedback, and impact.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, inclusivity, and academic excellence within the Centre.
  • Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required, including administrative tasks appropriate to the role.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS and EXPERIENCE
  • Recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience in delivering training or professional development for teachers or lecturers in higher education.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary pedagogic practice, digital learning, and inclusive education.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to adapt training to meet the needs of diverse audiences.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Commitment to ethical practice, inclusivity, and continuous professional development.
DESIRABLE SKILLS and EXPERIENCE
  • Experience integrating digital technologies and generative AI into training.
  • Experience supporting staff with HEA Fellowship or similar professional recognition.
  • Experience responding to quality assurance, regulatory, or partnership requirements in training design.
KEY RESULT AREAS
  • Delivery of required training modules (e.g. onboarding, digital learning) on schedule.
  • Positive feedback and measurable improvement in participant capability and teaching practice.
  • Innovation and relevance of training materials, including integration of digital and AI tools.
  • Engagement metrics from staff attending training (e.g. satisfaction, retention of key concepts).
  • Evidence of continuous improvement and alignment with institutional priorities.
