This ballet teacher will be responsible for delivering the Central School of Ballet Junior School syllabus to pupils aged 4-16 years, in the following hours:
Thursdays, 3.75 hours per week, 4.30-8.15pm
Key accountabilitiesThe teacher will give the pupils the full benefit of their knowledge, expertise and technical skill at all times. The teacher is responsible for upholding the school’s child protection policy and promoting the safeguarding of children at all times. Any concerns about a child’s welfare should be discussed with the Designated Safeguarding Lead/Associate School and Short Courses Manager who will take the relevant course of action.
The teacher’s primary responsibilities will be to:
- Prepare and plan the programme of ballet training for each class with reference to, and in line with, the CSB Junior School Syllabus System of Training and in conjunction with the Associate School and Short Courses Manager and fellow Junior School teachers.
- Encourage the development of pupils and their skills and identify those pupils who should be considered for further coaching.
- Ensure that the class understands the body of work to be covered during the year, both in terms of physical understanding, achievement and vocabulary to be learned.
- Share responsibility for ensuring pupils warm up in order to prevent injury.
- Teach the programme of ballet throughout the duration of the term, liaising with the class pianist and teaching assistant where necessary; prepare their classes for annual observation and assessment, including parent watching weeks and other performance opportunities.
- Contribute to School performances which may include choreography, teaching and rehearsing repertoire or assisting students with performance skills including preparation of hair, make-up and costumes. Additional hours may be required for such events.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service training/professional development opportunities.
- Participate freely in the review and evaluation of the year’s work.
- The teacher will also be responsible for the following areas: the maintenance of discipline, including recording attendance, lateness and absence; ensuring acceptable standards of conduct of pupils; maintaining acceptable standards of appearance in accordance with the school uniform policy.
