The Department of Finance is a major contributor to the success of Birmingham Business School, delivering internationally excellent research and teaching across the whole portfolio of programmes including the BSc Accounting and Finance, MSc Financial Management, MSc Investments, MSc Financial Technology and the new MSc Sustainable Finance. RoleSummary
As an Assistant Professor in Finance (Education focused), you will inspire students and be informed by discipline‑based research and the management, development and delivery of teaching and assessment, whilst enhancing the student experience and employability (for education focused candidates). You will contribute to a range of education‑related activities. Teaching is likely to include a contribution to: (a) the management, development and delivery of teaching and assessment at all levels;
and (b) enhancement of the student experience and employability. The role will typically also involve developing and advising others, including: (a) providing advice to staff and students, and (b) developing and advising others on learning and teaching tasks and methods. You will be expected to deliver high quality teaching and learning practice in your modules and play an important role in student academic and pastoral support.
We are open to candidates with expertise in a range of teaching (and/or research) related areas at the cutting edge of the Finance discipline.
The post holder is expected to deliver excellent teaching that inspires students and is informed by discipline‑based research. You will supervise UG and MSc dissertations and engage in personal tutoring.
In addition, you will be expected to demonstrate academic citizenship, developing and maintaining mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all staff and students, and ensuring the way you carry out your role impacts positively on how others carry out theirs.
