Graduate Science Academic Coach

Do you want a full academic year in a large secondary school where you support pupils across biology, chemistry and physics, and see progress build from KS3 foundations into KS4 exam readiness?

  • September 2026 start, to July 2027
  • £90 – £111 per day, term time only
  • Large secondary school, Ward of Edgbaston
  • KS3 and KS4 support across all sciences
The Role

You will work with the science department to raise attainment through targeted 1:1 and small group support, plus in‑class help where needed. Your sessions will focus on the gaps that stop pupils moving forward: scientific vocabulary, core concepts, working scientifically skills, maths within science, and longer written explanations. Science at KS3 builds knowledge across biology, chemistry and physics, so you will help pupils recall prior learning, use key terms accurately, and explain ideas clearly in a structured way.

In KS4, you will build exam habits through repeatable routines: decode the command word, plan the response, apply the correct knowledge, then check for accuracy. You will model strong answers, break tasks into small steps, and run quick checks so you catch misconceptions early. You will keep brief notes on what you covered and what improved, then feedback to teachers so your support stays aligned to current lesson content and assessment points.

The

Candidate

You bring calm authority, clear explanations, and the confidence to run focused sessions without losing pace. You care about pupils improving, not performing.

  • Degree at 2:2 or above, a science subject is ideal
  • Confident supporting KS3 and KS4 science across biology, chemistry and physics
  • Comfortable delivering 1:1 and small group sessions with clear aims and simple progress checks
  • Able to explain concepts using precise vocabulary and step‑by‑step methods
  • Experience with young people through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, or volunteering is desirable
  • Professional approach to safeguarding, confidentiality and behaviour expectations
  • Enhanced DBS required, plus right to work checks, references and standard school vetting
The School

You will work in Birmingham’s Ward of Edgbaston, a south‑west Birmingham ward with a varied local community and major education sites nearby. As a large secondary, the school relies on clear routines, consistent expectations, and strong teamwork between departments. You will get direction on priority pupils, intervention focus and resources from the start, with regular feedback from the science team so you improve quickly and your sessions stay high impact.

Apply

Now

Send your CV to be considered. If shortlisted, you will get a call to confirm your September 2026 availability, your experience with young people and your confidence supporting science across KS3 and KS4. Checks follow, then the school stage is arranged in good time for the start date.

Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
