Laboratory Technician

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our amazing Technical Services Team within School Operations. We are seeking a proactive, reliable individual to join our team, which supports teaching and research facilities in the College of Health & Life Sciences. The successful candidate will join the Laboratory Operations team, where you will provide day-to-day technical support for our teaching facilities across Biosciences, Pharmaceutics, and Neuroscience subject groups.

This is a varied and rewarding role where you will work closely with academic staff, professional services colleagues, and students to ensure our laboratories run smoothly, safely, and effectively.

• Liaising with academic stakeholders to understand and support teaching programmes
• Preparing laboratories for practical class sessions
• Purchasing chemicals and consumables needed for practical class sessions
• Providing hands‑on training to staff and students on laboratory equipment and techniques
• Providing Health and Safety advice and ensuring facilities are compliant

We are looking for a practical, organised individual with a strong commitment to teamwork and customer service. You will thrive in a busy, dynamic environment and enjoy working with a diverse range of people, from students to academic staff and external suppliers. The successful candidate will hold A Levels or equivalent Level 3 qualifications relevant to the role, and experience of working in a laboratory setting in Biosciences is beneficial, although full training will be provided.

You will be supported to undertake a range of training and development activity including placements at other universities. As a minimum, you will undertake relevant technical and health & safety training.

This role is a permanent, part‑time position. The working pattern is full‑time hours for 35 weeks a year between September and May (with 2 weeks off at Christmas and Easter) to align with the main teaching periods.
