SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant

Do you want a long-term role in an Outstanding secondary school where you help students with Autism and ADHD feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn?

Immediate start until July 2026 £ 82 - £102 per day

'Outstanding' secondary school, Ward of Ladywood 1:1 and small group support for students who have Autism and ADHD

The Role:

You will support students across KS3 and KS4 who need consistent, structured help to access learning. You will deliver 1:1 and small group sessions that focus on attention, organisation, communication, and core learning tasks, while keeping routines calm and predictable. You will follow student support plans and contribute to strategies agreed with the SENCO and pastoral teams, so support stays consistent across lessons.

You will use practical classroom adjustments, clear instructions, visual cues, chunked tasks, movement breaks where appropriate, and simple check‑ins to help students regulate and stay engaged. You will help reduce barriers linked to sensory overload, anxiety, and transitions by preparing students for changes, using clear expectations, and de‑escalating early. You will record brief outcomes and share what works with staff, so approaches tighten over time and students gain independence.

Your work will sit within the wider SEND framework used in England, including graduated support and targeted provision.

The Candidate:
  • Degree at 2:2 or above in any subject
  • Confident supporting young people with Autism and ADHD, with a practical, needs‑led approach
  • Comfortable delivering 1:1 and small group support with clear routines and outcomes
  • Experience with young people through schools, tutoring, mentoring, youth work, care, or volunteering is desirable
  • Strong approach to safeguarding, confidentiality, and behaviour expectations
  • Enhanced DBS required, plus right to work checks, references, and standard school vetting
The School:

You will work in the Ward of Ladywood, which includes much of Birmingham city centre and surrounding communities. This Outstanding secondary school sets high expectations and runs clear systems for behaviour, attendance, and inclusion. You will join a SEND team that values consistent routines, strong relationships, and early intervention, so students get the right support before issues escalates. You will receive clear direction on focus students, strategies, and lesson‑by‑lesson expectations, plus access to resources and guidance so you settle quickly.

The culture is structured, supportive, and outcomes‑focused, so your work stays purposeful and measurable.

Apply Now:

Send your CV to be considered. If shortlisted, you will get a call to confirm your availability, your experience with young people, and your confidence supporting Autism and ADHD. Safeguarding and compliance checks follow, then the next stage with the school is arranged quickly due to the immediate start. Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
