Independent Safeguarding Committee Member - Birmingham Cathedral
As an independent member of the Safeguarding Committee, you will help oversee and support the cathedral’s safeguarding practices, ensuring they reflect best standards and promote a culture of safety, transparency, and care. You will work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and external partners to uphold the cathedral’s commitment to safeguarding children, vulnerable adults, and all members of the community.
This is a voluntary role, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. Training and support will be provided.

Key Responsibilities- Attend committee meetings, three times a year (usually February, May and October) held at Birmingham Cathedral.
- Review safeguarding policies, procedures and casework.
- Provide independent advice and scrutiny.
- Champion safeguarding awareness and training.
- Good understanding of safeguarding principles
- Ability to hold sensitive information with integrity & confidentiality
- Able to contribute analytically and offer constructive challenge
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
- Ability to support the cathedral’s mission to be a safe and welcoming space for all.
- Empathy with the ethos of the Church of England.
- Local knowledge or community context.
- Experience in safeguarding or related fields i.e. HR / education.
This role is subject to a Basic DBS check.
