About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Responsible Individual (RI) to join our Residential Childcare service in Birmingham on a part-time basis (1 day per week).
The Responsible Individual plays a vital leadership and governance role, ensuring that the home operates in full compliance with regulatory requirements and delivers high-quality, safe, and nurturing care for children and young people.
This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable childcare professional looking for a flexible, strategic oversight position.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the Ofsted-registered Responsible Individual for the residential home
* Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including:
* Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015
* Quality Standards
* Safeguarding and child protection legislation
* Oversee leadership and management performance
* Monitor safeguarding practices and risk management processes
* Conduct regular visits in line with regulatory requirements
* Support and challenge the Registered Manager to drive continuous improvement
* Ensure robust policies, procedures, and governance systems are in place
* Liaise with external agencies, including Ofsted and local authorities
* Provide strategic oversight and ensure the home promotes positive outcomes for children
Essential Requirements
* Significant experience in residential childcare leadership
* Previous experience as a Responsible Individual or Registered Manager (preferred)
* Strong working knowledge of Ofsted regulations and inspection frameworks
* Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
* Proven experience in safeguarding and regulatory compliance
* Excellent communication and professional judgement
* Ability to provide both support and constructive challenge
