Health & Social Studies Teacher – BTEC – SEMH – Alternative Provision
An alternative provision is seeking a committed and resilient Health & Social Studies Teacher to teach small classes of students with SEMH needs who have been excluded from mainstream education. This is a rewarding opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about vocational learning and skilled at re‑engaging young people through structured, meaningful lessons.
As a Health & Social Studies Teacher, you will deliver BTEC Health and Social Care to small groups of secondary‑aged students. Strong classroom management skills are essential, alongside the ability to build positive relationships and maintain high expectations in a supportive but structured environment.
The Role:- Teaching BTEC Health and Social Care to small classes of students with SEMH needs
- Planning and delivering engaging, practical and accessible lessons
- Supporting students who have been excluded from mainstream education
- Managing behaviour confidently and consistently
- Using vocational learning to re‑engage students and build confidence
- Working closely with teaching assistants and pastoral staff
- Monitoring progress and supporting students to achieve qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification
- Experience teaching BTEC Health and Social Care
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
- Experience working with SEMH students or in alternative provision (desirable)
- A resilient, patient and adaptable teaching style
- A genuine commitment to supporting students with complex needs
- Small class sizes allowing for personalised teaching
- A supportive leadership team with clear behaviour systems
- Strong pastoral and TA support
- Access to appropriate resources for vocational delivery
