Teacher Active is working in partnership with a welcoming mainstream primary school in North Birmingham that has a dedicated SEND Hub to support pupils with additional needs. The school is seeking an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis.
This role involves supporting pupils within the school’s SEND Hub who are non-verbal and have Autism. Some pupils may display challenging behaviours; it is essential that candidates have previous experience working with children with Autism and complex SEND needs.
The Role:
• Supporting pupils within the school’s SEND Hub on a 1:1 and small group basis
• Working closely with pupils who are non-verbal and have Autism
• Supporting pupils with their communication, emotional regulation, and engagement
• Managing and responding appropriately to challenging behaviours
• Working alongside the class teacher and SEND team to support learning and development
• Helping to create a safe, structured, and supportive environment
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
• Experience working with children with Autism and complex SEND needs (essential)
• Experience supporting non-verbal pupils (highly desirable)
• Strong behaviour management skills
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach
• A passion for supporting children with additional needs
• A qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or SEND (desirable but not essential)
Requirements:
• Must be available full-time from March to July 2026
• Must be able to provide 2 professional references from recent employers
• Must have an enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to complete one through Teacher Active
• Must have the right to work in the UK
