Could you help GCSE pupils make better progress in Physics and Chemistry when the content starts to feel demanding? Are you looking for a secondary school role that gives you strong subject-based experience before teacher training?

*** £90 - £110 per day
*** ‘Good’ secondary school, Ward of Edgbaston

*** 1:1 and small group support across GCSE Physics and Chemistry

The Role:
Work with the Science department to support GCSE pupils in Physics and Chemistry through 1:1 tuition and small group intervention. You will help students strengthen their understanding of key topics, reinforce classwork, support revision, and feed back clearly to teachers on progress. GCSE science content is built around subject knowledge and progression across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, while secondary teachers work with pupils aged 11 to 16, or up to 19 in schools with sixth forms.

The Candidate:
You are clear, organised, and confident explaining difficult ideas in a simple way. You want practical secondary school experience, enjoy helping students build confidence in Science, and are keen to develop the classroom skills needed for a future in teaching.

Requirements

• Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.

• Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.

• Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.

• Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.

• Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.

This ‘Good’ secondary school in the Ward of Edgbaston offers the chance to build valuable subject-based experience in a well-structured Science department. You will join a setting where targeted intervention matters, classroom support has a clear purpose, and extra academic guidance is used to help pupils make measurable progress in GCSE Physics and Chemistry. ’s DBS workforce guidance was updated on 20 January 2026 and remains the key eligibility guidance for enhanced checks in roles working with children.
