Overview

Midlands Arts Centre’s Learning and Participation programme offers over 150 term courses and short courses for children, young people and adults. We are looking for an artist tutor to teach two 12‑week ceramics courses – Coloured Clays, Porcelain and Basic Mould Making – starting in Autumn 2026.

Courses
  • CE95 Autumn – Fridays 10:00–12:30, Beginners/Improvers
  • CE101 Autumn – Fridays 13:00–15:30, Beginners/Improvers
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver tuition for the 12‑week Coloured Clays, Porcelain and Basic Mould Making courses.
  • Devising clear lesson plans and course structure to enable progression of learning and adapt to each participant’s needs.
  • Ensuring courses are delivered as per the course descriptions, teaching beginner and improver level techniques.
  • Preparing equipment and technical requests ahead of the course in liaison with the Learning Team.
  • Continuous reflection and evaluation on course quality and delivery.
  • Working within MAC’s policies with specific attention to Safeguarding and Health & Safety.
Required Experience and Skills
  • Previous experience delivering practical ceramics courses and workshops.
  • Educated or experienced to a suitable level in ceramics, porcelain and mould making.
  • Proven communication skills with a range of people using varied methods.
  • A passion and commitment to the arts and participatory learning.
  • Commitment to further your skills and knowledge through training, meetings and practice reflection.
  • Understanding and commitment to MAC’s key objectives and Equal Opportunities and Diversity policy.
  • Experience working with adults and children with additional needs or vulnerable adults.
  • Knowledge of other creative art forms that can support the expansion of MAC’s programme.
Compensation and Working Hours

£22.26 per hour, 5 hours per week during term time.
