Birmingham Adult Education Service (BAES), the largest local authority adult education provider in England, is seeking inspiring and flexible sessional tutors to help deliver a ground‑breaking £1 million Community Learning Growth Programme. This initiative is dedicated to supporting economically inactive adults across Birmingham into employment, further learning, volunteering, and civic participation—through hyper‑local, high‑impact and creatively designed learning experiences.
As we expand our curriculum, we are placing a powerful emphasis on creative media, digital fluency and future‑facing skills — equipping adults not just to access work, but to thrive in a modern, connected economy.

About the roleSessional Tutors will be central to the delivery of six bold intervention strands that tackle systemic barriers to learning and employment through creative and community‑rooted learning models. You will work under the direction of Programme Managers and contribute to one or more of the following strands:
Across all strands, we are embedding digital capability, media literacy and creative communication skills as essential tools for confidence, voice and progression.
You will:
Plan and deliver high‑quality, learner‑centred teaching and assessment in your subject area.
Integrate core Essential Skills (the 7 Cs: communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, community awareness, computer literacy, and self‑management).
Contribute to inclusive learning environments that prioritise confidence, wellbeing, and progression.
Collaborate with community navigators, peer mentors, and grassroots organisations to boost learner engagement.
Adapt delivery to meet the diverse needs of under‑served economically inactive learners.
A Strong Focus on Creative & Digital MediaWe are particularly excited to recruit tutors who can deliver engaging, employment‑focused provision in areas such as:
- Digital skills for life and work (online platforms, productivity tools, digital safety)
- Photography and visual storytelling
- Podcasting and audio production
- Community journalism and blogging
- Radio broadcasting and media presentation
- Social media content creation and branding
- Video production and editing
- Digital marketing for micro‑enterprises
- Creative enterprise and portfolio development
You will help learners:
- Build digital confidence from the ground up
- Develop real‑world media projects
- Create portfolios to support employment or self‑employment
- Use storytelling as a tool for civic engagement and community cohesion
- Understand how digital platforms can amplify under‑represented voices
We are also interested in tutors with experience in:
- Community-based teaching and outreach
, especially in partnership with grassroots organisations, community centres, or faith‑based venues - Literacy and numeracy for adult learners, particularly in working‑class communities
- ESOL for employment
, including workplace English, CV building, and interview preparation - Childcare training
, including Ofsted‑recognised qualifications and early years development - Volunteering, personal development, and leadership coaching
