We are working in partnership with a welcoming and ambitious school in North Birmingham that is seeking to appoint an exceptional Assistant Headteacher (AHT) SENCO / Inclusion Lead to join their leadership team from September.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dedicated professional who is committed to making a significant difference to the lives of children with additional needs. The school has a well-established Special Educational Needs Unit specialising in Speech and Language, and is looking for a leader who will champion inclusion across the whole school.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that all pupils with SEND receive the support they need to thrive, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) as well as pupils whose needs are emerging and require assessment and intervention.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the school's SEND and inclusion provision.
  • Identify, assess and support pupils with a range of additional needs.
  • Develop and implement effective Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and targeted interventions.
  • Write and review EHCP applications and annual reviews.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, staff, external agencies and other professionals to secure the best outcomes for pupils.
  • Support and develop inclusive teaching practices across the school.
  • Contribute strategically as a member of the senior leadership team.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Significant experience supporting children with SEND.
  • A strong understanding of the EHCP process and SEND legislation.
  • Experience creating and implementing effective IEPs and intervention strategies.
  • Excellent communication and partnership-working skills.
  • A genuine passion for inclusion and improving outcomes for vulnerable learners.
  • The SENCO qualification, NPQ for SENCOs (NPQSEN), or a similar relevant qualification would be highly advantageous.

This role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact within a school that is committed to providing exceptional support for all learners and fostering a truly inclusive environment.
