Job Description & How to Apply Below
1:1 Teaching Assistant - Reception (ASD Support)
Stechford, Birmingham
Start Date:
1st September 2026 | Until 21st July 2027 (Potential to Extend)
We are currently seeking a caring, resilient, and dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in the Stechford area of Birmingham. This is a full-time role starting in September 2026 and running until July 2027, with the potential to be extended for the right candidate.
The successful candidate will provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Reception-aged pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who is currently non-verbal. The pupil requires a consistent and patient adult who can support their communication, learning, emotional wellbeing, and daily routines throughout the school day.
The ideal candidate will have a calm and nurturing approach whilst maintaining clear and consistent boundaries. They will be confident in implementing routines, encouraging independence where appropriate, and responding positively to the child's individual needs. A firm but compassionate approach will be essential in helping the pupil feel secure and supported within the classroom environment.
The role will also involve supporting the child with personal care and toileting, therefore applicants must be comfortable carrying out intimate care duties in a respectful, dignified, and supportive manner.
The ideal candidate will have:
* Previous experience supporting children with ASD and additional needs
* Experience working with non-verbal children or supporting alternative methods of communication (such as visuals, symbols, or communication aids)
* A nurturing, patient, and consistent approach, with the ability to maintain strong boundaries and expectations
* Confidence in supporting personal care and toileting needs
* The ability to build positive relationships with the child, class teacher, SEND team, and wider school staff
* A proactive attitude and a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
In return, you will receive:
* A rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference to a child's school experience and development
* The chance to work within a supportive and inclusive school environment
* Ongoing support from a dedicated education consultant
* Competitive rates of pay
This is a fantastic opportunity for a compassionate and committed Teaching Assistant who understands the importance of patience, consistency, and positive relationships when supporting a child with complex additional needs.
If you are available from September 2026 and have the skills, experience, and enthusiasm to support this young learner, we would love to hear from you. Apply today to find out more about this rewarding opportunity.
