Job Description – Young People & Family Ceramis Tutor

Midlands Arts Centre’s Learning and Participation programme offers a wide range of courses for children, young people, and adults. Located in the leafy Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham, we are recruiting an artist tutor to deliver our 12‑week piano course for adults, beginning in Autumn 2026.

Job Purpose

Provide tuition for all piano courses in the Autumn Term 2026, with the view to continue in a permanent role.

Schedule and Course Details
  • Monday 15:30–20:30 – All levels
  • Tuesday 15:30–20:30 – All levels
  • Thursday 13:00–15:00 & 15:30–20:30 – All levels
  • Friday 15:30–20:30 – All levels
Responsibilities
  • Devise clear lesson plans and course structure to enable progression of learning and adapt to each participant’s needs.
  • Teach all levels of piano technique in accordance with the course description.
  • Continuously reflect and evaluate on course delivery and quality.
  • Work within MAC’s policies, paying special attention to safeguarding and health & safety.
Person Specification
  • Previous experience in delivering practical piano courses and workshops.
  • Educated to a suitable level in piano.
  • Proven ability to communicate well with a range of people using varied communication methods.
  • A passion and commitment to the arts.
  • A commitment to further development of skills and knowledge in participatory arts.
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, MAC’s key objectives and equal opportunities and diversity policy.
  • Experience of working with adults and children with additional needs and/or vulnerable adults.
  • Knowledge of other creative arts that may help expand MAC’s creative learning offer.
Compensation & Hours

£22.26 per hour, 27.5 hours per week (term time).

Birmingham, Cannons Hill Park, Midlands Arts Centre.
