Band 5 Manual Handling Educator – Therapy Services

An exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Manual Handling Educator to join the Manual Handling Training team. The role involves delivering face‑to‑face practical training and education to all staff groups on moving and handling patients and loads. Training includes mandatory, non‑mandatory and bespoke specialised sessions, and onsite training at specific staff groups. The educator also assists with external training provision and supports the promotion of musculoskeletal health at work, reducing injury risk for staff and patients.
Mainduties of the job
- Provide hands‑on practical training to staff groups across all Trust sites, travelling to different locations including external sites as required.
- Support staff in the safe delivery of manual handling in patient care, working alongside clinical staff.
- In the first month, gain patient handling skills on a ward if the applicant has limited clinical experience.
- Assist with in‑animate object handling for non‑clinical staff.
- Participate in rotation between the Training and Risk workstream.
- Complete external trainer/education courses within the first 18 months.
- Study for a post‑graduate certificate or diploma within 2–3 years.
- Rotation between Training and Risk work streams once established.
- Level 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CET) or higher, or equivalent.
- Manual Handling qualification equivalent to RoSPA/EDGE level 3.
- General education to A level standard or equivalent.
- Ability to study at post‑graduate level and willingness to achieve it.
- Award in Education and Training (AET) – minimum IOSH.
- Coaching and/or mentorship qualifications.
- Evidence of continuous professional development in current area of work.
- Experience working in healthcare and/or with dependent people.
- Practical patient/load manual handling experience.
- Experience delivering training/education.
- Knowledge of IT packages such as Microsoft Office 365/Teams.
- Prioritisation and multitasking skills.
- Knowledge of manual handling procedures and equipment.
- Experience of patient handling preferably in an acute care setting.
- Experience developing training programmes.
- Knowledge of relevant Health and Safety legislation.
