Description

As a member of the Positive Behaviour Support Team, and the wider multidisciplinary team at the college, you will work collaboratively with students, staff, parents/carers, and outside agencies, organising meetings and promoting collaboration to meet students needs in a person centred way.

You will use different methods of data collection to track, monitor, and analyse behaviour as part of the functional assessment process, which will be used to support the development of proactive interventions as part of Positive Support Plans, and Student Safety Plans.

Through your day to day working you will uphold the college values, promote, and support others through modelling best practices in person centred support to meet the needs of students. Your primary location will be the colleges main campus, but may also be require working at our satellite sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support in the assessment, planning, and implementation of appropriate support for students pre and post entry.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess level of need using pre-entry information and internally collected data, to identify appropriate person centred interventions that promote inclusion.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and specialised expertise in creating Positive Behaviour Support and Student Safety Plans.
  • Collaborate with staff to identify key behaviours for tracking as part of the functional analysis process, and help understand the underlying reasons for the behaviours.
  • Uphold a Person-Centred Risk Approach, taking necessary steps to minimise and manage risk.
  • Support the Positive Behaviour and Engagement Officer to analyse and evaluate data as part of ongoing monitoring processes to ensure that support in place is effective, and appropriate changes are made as and when required.
  • Offer ongoing practical support to staff, helping them develop techniques and strategies appropriate to the student and setting using modelling where appropriate.
  • Build effective relationships with staff and students, promoting positive behaviour and communication throughout QAC.
  • Establish effective relationships with staff and students, acting as a key point of contact, that helps to promote positive behaviour support and communication throughout QAC.
  • Support student engagement through a trauma informed approach that helps create trust-based relationships to reduce the need for negative behaviours.
  • Utilise empathy and active listening skills to provide reassurance and help reduce frequency and severity of challenging behaviour.
  • Provide support to staff as part of the urgent response team, promoting de-escalation techniques for students who display crisis behaviour, reducing the need for physical intervention or exclusion.
  • Respond to serious incidents in a timely and appropriate manner, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of those involved.
  • Adopt a reflective approach to working practices, willingly engaging in 360-degree feedback and actively seeking ways to improve and enhance working approaches.

  • Respond appropriately and professionally when undertaking difficult and challenging conversations with staff, students, parents/carers, and external agencies.
  • Support the Positive Behaviour and Engagement Officer in developing policies to promote Positive Behaviour Support and reduce the need for physical intervention techniques.
  • Use data to monitor incidents, and provide timely recommendations to senior managers when there is an increased ongoing risk.
  • Stay updated on laws, regulations, and training related to Positive Behaviour Support.
  • Undertake additional training as needed to fulfil the duties of the role as directed by the Positive Behaviour and Student Engagement Officer.
  • Perform any other duties appropriate to the post as determined by senior management.
