Primary Graduate Teaching Assistant – Birmingham
Location: Birmingham, B8
Job Type: Full-Time, Monday–Friday (Term Time Only)
Start Date: September 2026 for the 26/27 academic year
Salary: £500–£530 per week, term time only
Some children need more than classroom teaching - they need consistent support to help them access learning and build confidence.
A welcoming primary school in Birmingham is looking for a Graduate Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEND) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This role is ideal for graduates who are considering careers in teaching, educational psychology, SEN support, or youth work and want meaningful classroom experience from day one.
The RoleYou will work closely with teachers and SEN staff to support pupils both academically and emotionally.
- Support pupils with SEND/SEMH needs in class and in small groups
- Deliver targeted intervention sessions to help close learning gaps
- Build positive, consistent relationships with pupils
- Help create a calm, structured and supportive learning environment
- Track progress and support teachers with feedback
- Graduate (2:2 or above) in any subject (Psychology/SEN related degrees advantageous)
- Calm, patient and resilient approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Passion for supporting children with additional needs
- Experience in tutoring, mentoring, youth work or childcare is beneficial but not essential
- Excellent hands-on experience in a primary SEN-focused environment
- Strong preparation for PGCE, educational psychology or SEN careers
