Physical Education Teacher

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Sports Teacher who is passionate about using physical education and sport to inspire, motivate and engage young people. This is an exciting opportunity to help pupils develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and healthy lifestyles while supporting their personal development, wellbeing and future success.

- Salary: Competitive salary (dependent on experience)
- Hours: 9:15am - 3:30pm
- Working Pattern: Monday to Friday
- Lunch and Breaks: 1 hour (unpaid)
- Hours per Week: 26 hours 15 minutes
- Location: Hockley or Northfield, Birmingham
As our Sports Teacher, you will deliver engaging and inclusive Physical Education lessons that encourage pupils to develop their physical skills, confidence, teamwork and resilience. Working with small class sizes, you will adapt your teaching to meet the individual needs of pupils, helping them overcome barriers to learning while promoting positive physical and mental wellbeing.
Key ResponsibilitiesYou will:
- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, high-quality Physical Education and Sports lessons that inspire and motivate pupils.
- Develop creative lesson plans and learning resources that meet curriculum requirements and support outstanding teaching and learning.
- Deliver a broad and balanced PE curriculum that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, resilience and healthy lifestyles.
- Encourage participation in a wide range of sporting activities that develop confidence, leadership and cooperation.
- Differentiate learning to meet the individual needs of pupils, including those with SEND, SEMH and additional learning needs.
- Assess, monitor and record pupil progress using a range of formative and summative assessment strategies.
- Prepare pupils for GCSE Physical Education examinations where appropriate and support them to achieve their full academic potential.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback that supports pupil progress and raises achievement.
- Set appropriate learning targets and monitor progress towards them.
- Create a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment where pupils feel encouraged to participate and achieve.
- Promote good sportsmanship, respect, resilience and positive behaviour through all sporting activities.
- Use effective behaviour management strategies to maximise learning and engagement.
- Ensure all lessons are delivered in accordance with health and safety requirements and appropriate risk assessments.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers and external professionals.
- Maintain accurate records relating to attendance, assessment, progress and pupil achievement.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to share best practice and contribute to curriculum development.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, CPD, parents' evenings and school events.
- Support extracurricular sporting opportunities and contribute to the wider life of the school where appropriate.
- Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection in line with statutory guidance.
We’re looking for someone who has:
- A recognised teaching qualification (QTS, PGCE, DET, Cert Ed or equivalent).
- A degree or relevant qualification in Physical Education, Sports Science or a related subject.
- Experience teaching Physical Education at secondary level.
- Excellent lesson planning, preparation and organisational skills.
- Experience of assessing, monitoring and tracking pupil progress.
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
- The ability to differentiate learning for pupils with a wide range of abilities and additional needs.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements within Physical Education and sporting activities.
- The ability to motivate and engage pupils, promoting confidence, resilience and positive participation.
