An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and passionate Pastoral Leader to join a welcoming and inclusive Secondary School in Perry Barr, Birmingham from the start of the new academic year in September 2026.

This is a full-time, long-term position with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. The school has a Good Ofsted rating and is committed to ensuring every student receives the support, guidance, and opportunities they need to succeed both academically and personally.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students' wellbeing, behaviour, attendance, and safeguarding, helping to remove barriers to learning and enabling young people to achieve their full potential.

The Role

As a Pastoral Leader, you will be at the heart of the school's pastoral provision, working closely with students, families, staff, and external agencies to ensure students are supported throughout their educational journey.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and coordinating pastoral support for students.
  • Supporting students' wellbeing, personal development, and engagement in school life.
  • Working closely with families to provide early intervention and support where required.
  • Promoting excellent standards of behaviour and attendance.
  • Supporting safeguarding procedures and working alongside designated safeguarding staff.
  • Identifying and addressing barriers to learning.
  • Implementing effective intervention strategies for vulnerable students.
  • Building positive relationships with students, parents, carers, and external professionals.
  • Contributing to a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment.
The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for a Pastoral Leader who:

  • Has previous experience in a pastoral, behaviour, attendance, safeguarding, youth work, or student support role.
  • Is compassionate, resilient, and highly motivated.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership and organisational skills.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is committed to supporting young people to overcome challenges and achieve success.
