Learning Mentors / Teaching Assistants (Welfare Practitioners) Required

Supply Heroes are recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and highly inclusive Primary School in Alum Rock, Birmingham, for multiple Learning Mentors (Welfare Practitioners) to join their pastoral support team on a full-time basis.

This is an exciting opportunity for experienced school support professionals who are passionate about making a positive difference to children's lives. You will work closely with pupils, staff and families to support welfare, behaviour, attendance, safeguarding and engagement in learning, helping pupils overcome barriers both inside and outside the classroom.

The school is seeking enthusiastic, proactive and compassionate individuals who can build positive relationships with pupils and provide the support needed for them to thrive both academically and personally.

The Role
  • Provide pastoral and mentoring support to primary-aged pupils
  • Support pupils with their personal, social, emotional and academic development
  • Help identify and remove barriers to learning
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, carers and external agencies
  • Promote positive behaviour and engagement across the school
  • Support attendance initiatives and pupil wellbeing
  • Assist with safeguarding and welfare provision
  • Monitor pupil progress and contribute to support plans and interventions
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils and families
Essential Criteria
  • Applicants MUST have previous experience working in a UK primary school setting supporting pupils.
  • Applications without experience supporting pupils within a UK primary school environment will not be considered.
  • Experience supporting children's welfare, wellbeing or pastoral needs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
  • A patient, resilient and empathetic approach
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people to succeed
Desirable Criteria
  • A DBS Certificate registered on the Update Service
  • More than one year's experience working with primary school pupils in the UK
  • Experience supporting behaviour, attendance or pastoral interventions
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures within schools
