General duties and key responsibilities

• To carry out the duties of a school teacher as setout in the ‘School Teachers Pay and Conditions’ Document andlisted in the Teachers’ Standards.
• Continue to meet the requirements for Qualified Teacher Status.

• Have knowledge and understanding of the Foundation Stage, National Curriculum and the Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education(RE).
• Understand how pupils’ learning is affected bytheir physical, intellectual, emotional and social development and to understand the stages of child development.
• Select and make good use of ICT skills for classroom and management support.
• Be familiar with school’s current systems and structures as outlined in policy documents including the Health and Safety and Child Protection policies. Reporting any safeguarding concerns immediately toone of our designated safeguarding leads.

• Plan and deliver in relation to the Early Learning Goals, National Curriculum and the Agreed Syllabus for RE with regard for theschool’s aim statement, own policies and schemes of work, the teachingprogramme for all children within the class.
• Provide clear structure for lessons and forsequences of lessons, which maintain pace, motivation and challenge.
• Make effective use of assessment information onpupils’ attainment and progress and in planning future lessons.
• Ensure effective teaching of whole classes, groupsand individuals, establishing high expectations of behaviour and attainment, sothat teaching objectives are met.
• Monitor and intervene when teaching to ensure soundlearning and discipline and maintain a safe environment in which pupils feel confident.
• Use a variety of teaching and learning styles tokeep pupils engaged.
• Be familiar with the Code of Practice and identification, assessment and support of pupils with Special Educational Needs(SEN).
• Evaluate their own teaching critically to improveeffectiveness.

• Assess and record each pupil’s progresssystematically with reference to the school’s current practice and use the results to inform planning.
• Mark and monitor class work and homework, providing constructive feedback and setting targets for future progress.
• Provide reports on individual progress to the Headteacher and parents as required.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with professional colleagues and parents.
• Participate as required with professional colleagues and parents in respect of the duties and responsibilities of thepost.
• Be aware of the need to take responsibility foryour own professional development.
• Take part in school routines including meetings, assemblies,playground duties and external activities.
• Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to Child Protection, Health and Safety, Security, Confidentiality andData Protection reporting all concerns to the appropriate person.
• Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of theschool.
