Vision for Education is working in partnership with Thrive Education Partnership to recruit enthusiastic, compassionate and proactive graduates to work as Learning Support Assistants within specialist SEND settings across Birmingham.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering a career in teaching, educational psychology, SEND, youth work, counselling, social care or pastoral support. You will gain valuable, hands‑on experience working alongside experienced teachers and support staff while making a genuine difference to the lives of young people.

As a Graduate Learning Support Assistant, you will support pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, helping them to engage in learning, develop independence and build confidence.

You do not necessarily need previous experience working in a school. We welcome applications from graduates with relevant transferable experience, including those who have worked in care, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, residential support, health and social care or community settings.

Depending on the needs of the school and individual pupils, your responsibilities may include:

• Supporting pupils with their learning and development in the classroom.
• Working alongside teachers and specialist support staff to deliver engaging activities.
• Developing positive and trusting relationships with children and young people.
• Supporting pupils with communication, social interaction and emotional regulation.
• Encouraging independence, confidence and participation in school life.
• Providing support for pupils with complex learning needs, autism and other SEND.
• Supporting positive behaviour and helping pupils to manage challenges.
• Assisting with personal care, feeding or mobility where required and appropriate.
• Contributing to a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

Calthorpe Academy is a specialist educational setting within Thrive Education Partnership
, supporting children and young people with a range of complex learning needs and special educational needs.

The school places a strong focus on inclusion, communication, independence and helping every learner make progress in their own way. As a member of the support team, you will work collaboratively with teaching staff and other professionals to provide personalised support for pupils.
