As recognised by inspectors during the June 2025 Ofsted/CQC inspection, "in recent years, the experiences of children and young people with SEND in Birmingham have started to improve."

We are now building on that progress through the Birmingham SEND Reforms - working as one Local Area Partnership across Education, Health and Social Care, alongside parent carers, children and young people. This is an exciting moment to join us. We are launching a partnership-wide recruitment campaign to strengthen our specialist teams, creating additional roles as part of a significant investment programme that reflects the scale of our ambition and our commitment to building a new SEND system for Birmingham by 2030.

At the heart of this work is our new Experts at Hand model, which will operate across our districts and support schools to meet the needs of children and young people with SEND through a strong graduated approach. We are looking for talented, committed and values-driven people who want to make a real difference and be part of multi-disciplinary teams delivering lasting change for Birmingham's children, young people and families.

Have you had recent and successful experience of teaching children and young people with vision impairment? Do you share our commitment to supporting the inclusion of children and young people in schools and nursery settings? We are looking for a Qualified Teacher of Children and Young People with Vision Impairment to provide assessment, teaching and support for children and young people with vision impairment from birth - 25 years.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed and highly motivated teacher to join this vibrant team, and be flexible in their ways of working in order to meet the wide range of needs and age range of children and young people with vision impairment that the team supports.

The team provides support to families and educational settings to raise achievement, promote inclusion and improve access to learning opportunities for children and young people with vision impairment across all age ranges, within the city of Birmingham. This position will involve working in family homes, nurseries, mainstream schools, special schools and FE colleges and travelling across the city of Birmingham.

Candidates for this post must hold qualified teacher status. We will consider applications from, Qualified Teachers of Children and Young people with Vision Impairment who hold the mandatory qualification, as well as from those who are currently undertaking the mandatory qualification, or those qualified teachers who have experience teaching CYP with vision impairment, who would be willing to undertake the mandatory training.
