We are a forward‑thinking, nurturing and highly aspirational school, committed to ensuring that every child thrives academically, socially and emotionally. As we continue to grow and strengthen our provision, we are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Pastoral Manager to join our passionate team.
About the Role
Pastoral Managers at City of Birmingham School play a central role in creating a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for pupils with a wide range of social, emotional, and behavioural needs. You will work closely with teaching staff, the SEND team, campus leadership and external agencies to ensure pupils feel secure, understood, and able to engage positively with learning.
Your work will include leading on pastoral interventions, analysing behaviour data, supporting pupils individually and in small groups, and implementing strategies that help remove barriers to learning. You will contribute to behaviour plans, safeguarding processes, risk assessments, and the wider personal development of pupils. You will also play a key role in supporting positive relationships with families and promoting strong communication across the school community.
This is a highly rewarding role where you will make a measurable difference to the daily experiences and long-term outcomes of some of the most vulnerable young people in Birmingham.
What We Are Looking For
We welcome applications from individuals who are:
Passionate about pastoral care and committed to improving outcomes for pupils with complex social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
Experienced in supporting pupils who face social exclusion, SEMH challenges or behavioural difficulties, and confident in using a range of strategies to help them succeed.
Skilled communicators who can build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, families, staff and external agencies.
Able to work independently and take initiative, using strong organisational and problem-solving skills to manage caseloads, implement interventions and monitor progress.
Confident in analysing behaviour and pastoral data, using this to plan effective support and produce accurate records and reports.
Committed to safeguarding and equality, consistently promoting safe practice, inclusive approaches, and high expectations for all pupils.
Open to professional learning, willing to develop their expertise and contribute to staff training and the wider development of the school's pastoral provision.
What We Can Offer You
A forward‑thinking school committed to continual improvement and innovation.
A welcoming, friendly and positive working environment where staff feel valued and supported.
Opportunities to build strong, positive relationships that support and enhance the lives of our children.
A supportive, enthusiastic and highly motivated staff team and governing body.
The chance to be part of exciting developments in school systems, approaches and innovative practice.
A strong commitment to continuing professional development
